Parents
When looking for childcare the options can seem endless, and understanding the differences can be sometimes be overwhelming . South East Childcare has listed the choices open to you.
Nannies
Trained nannies offer high quality, professional childcare with the family home. A Nanny is a particularly useful childcare option for parents who require flexible childcare cover. A Nanny will provide sole charge, on a one-to-one within a safe, secure and loving environment. This will encourage and develop the children’s physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs to enable the child to reach their full potential. The Nanny is expected to carry out all nursery duties and all aspects of the children’s care. Duties will include preparing nutritional balanced meals, providing stimulating age appropriate play, taking the children to school, nursery and to extracurricular activities. The nanny is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the children’s toys, rooms and clothes.

A Nanny does not have to be qualified but here at South East Childcare our nannies hold a Level 3 qualification (NNEB, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or CACHE Diploma) in working with young children, along with at least two years experience. This offers the idea nanny for all families. An average Nanny’s working day is eight to ten hours a day, with either a full or part time week.
“After one phone call with Sarah at South East Childcare our emergency childcare problems were solved. Sarah took time to understand our needs and found us an excellent nanny straightaway. Many thanks.

Parents Help (Mothers’ help)
As the name suggests a parents help (Mothers’ help) assists a mother or father with childcare and light household duties. A parents help is often a young adult with only six months childcare experience or a newly qualified. Because of their age and experience, a parents help works under the direct supervision of the parent, but as time goes by and confidence is gained you may wish to offer more responsibility; even sole charge of the children eventually. Duties of a parents help will include helping parents with the daily routine of caring for the children, playing with the children, washing and ironing the childrens clothes, light household duties, assisting with the shopping and cooking and up to two nights babysitting.
Babysitter
A Babysitter is often a Nanny or Nursery Nurse working in the Childcare sector on a full time basis who is available to work extra hours essentially at weekends or evenings. South East Childcare Babysitters cost £10.00 per hour before midnight and £12.00 per hour after midnight, plus the agency fee.

Maternity Nurse
The early days of parenthood can be a wonderful time; they can also be a time when new parents are crying out for advice and extra support. Maternity Nurses are generally trained and experienced nannies, nursery nurses or registered nurses/midwifes holding a maternity certificate such as the MNT Maternity training. They are employed on a short term basis following childbirth, living as part of the family for 24 hours a day, 6 days of the week. Their main role is to give constant support to the mother on her return home from hospital after the birth of a newborn. Maternity Nurses are generally self employed, working on a short term contract with families across the county.
After School Care Nanny
An After School Care nanny is the best childcare solution for your children once they are attending full time school. The nanny generally works from 2.30/3pm until around 6/7pm. The position is part time throughout the school term and can be full time in the school holidays. The nannies generally have their own child/children and are looking for a position to fit around their own family commitments. Salaries range from £8 – £10 net per hour, plus the agency fee.
